Description
Protectapatch is a
fast set, high strength cementitious
mortar. It consists of Portland
cements blended and formulated with a
high quality graded aggregates and
chemical modifiers. In addition the
mortar contains synthetic fibre
reinforcement.
Areas Of Use
Designed for
structural repairs to horizontal
concrete surfaces as follows; roads
and bridge decks, industrial floors,
airport and dock services areas, areas
with restrictive repair schedules,
heavily trafficked areas.
Advantages
-
High compressive
and flexural strengths
-
Resistant to
abrasion and water
-
Ease of
application
-
Sulphate
resistant
-
Excellent bonding
characteristics
-
Can be returned
to service after 1 hour at 20deg.C
-
Conforms to
BD27/86 D.O.T. specification Clause
6.1
Preparation
All surfaces must
be clean and sound. Cut surroundings
edges square to a minimum depth of
10mm and remove all loose and
defective concrete using light
percussion equipment. Scabble
surfaces to remove peaks and troughs.
If Chloride
presents, clean all steel to bright
condition, provide minimum cover of
15mm to any steel reinforcement
Mixing
Mix Protectapatch
with clean water only. The liquid
demand is 3.3 – 3.6 litres per 25kg.
This may vary with ambient
conditions. Ensure thorough mixing of
mortar which should be cohesive and
lump free. Use Cretangle, Mixanall or
Protectablender . Consistency will be
obtained by timed operations, only mix
sufficient material that can be placed
in 15 minutes. Mixing should be by
addition of powder to water until the
desired consistency is achieved.
Application
Ensure all surfaces
are thoroughly saturated and brush
slurry coat material covering and
steelwork. Apply Protectapatch using
firm pressure to compact material
fully paying attention to any
reinforcement. Brush finished can be
achieved to increase skid resistance,
slurry coats not required for concrete
surfaces. Minimum depth 10mm maximum
depth 100mm – greater depths can be
achieved by adding 30% 6-10mm clean
washed aggregates.
Curing
Protectapatch
contains a shrinkage compensated
cement system which reduces the
tendency of the material to lost
moisture. However, under hot and
windy conditions, mist spray the
material for as long as practicable.
The use of hessian, tarpaulin or
insulating material is recommended
during periods of cool windy
conditions. Propriety curing agents
can be used.
Limitations
Do not apply to
frost filled surfaces or when the
temperature is 5dec.C and falling. Do
not retemper.
Packaging
25kg re-sealable
polypropylene pail. 25kg multi-ply
biodegradable sack. Material should be
stored under cover and off the
ground. Store not more than 6 high
stacks and 4 high for pails. Rotate
stock accordingly. The shelf life of
Protectapatch is 12 months in pails
and 6 months in stacks.
Health & Safety
Cementitious based
materials can be hazardous to health.
Wear protection or masks when mixing
dry powder. Use in ventilated areas.
Wear gloves or barrier cream if you
are allergic to cement based
products. Full COSSH information
available on request.
